Signing request needs to be 2048 bit key size

+1 vote

I have a basic cert already and I need to renew.  When I submit to SSL.com, I get this error:

signing request must have a 2048 bit key size. Please submit a new ssl.com certificate signing request with the proper key size.

How do I correct this issue?

You will need to create a new ssl csr with the respective flags (for openssl) or form option (iis) set to 2048 bits. As computers get faster, ssl encryption needs to increase the bit-strength to counter hacking attempts using these faster computers, and all the major Certificate Authorities and Browser vendors have agreed to set 2048 bit as the global ssl standard.
